Hyderabad, August 26 : A YSR Congress party delegation, led by Honorary President YS Vijayamma, will meet the President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday to apprise him of the developments in the state in wake of the Congress decision to bifurcate the State and seek his intervention to provide equal justice to both the regions.
“YS Vijayamma along with Party MPs, MLAs and MLCs will meet the President seeking his intervention to ensure justice to both regions before the Congress decision of dividing the State comes up in the cabinet for discussion,” party senior leader Konathala Ramakrishna told reporters here on Monday.
We have already written letter to the Prime Minister about the issues that would crop up in wake of the division which are of serious nature and it is not prudent to split the state without addressing the issues. We have urged the Centre to maintain status quo if justice cannot be done to both regions, he said.
“Our party has been advocating that a solution to all the potential problems should be addressed to and a solution should be found bringing a consensus in all stake holders before going ahead with the division of the state.
Unless this is done both regions would suffer if the division is done for political reasons instead of going into the details and finding a solution to the potential problems.
We have mentioned very vital issues like sharing of river waters, safety of employees and investors, capital city, sharing of revenue and others on many occasions as we are the voice of the people and what we are expressing is the sentiments of the multitude of people.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s fast has entered the second day in jail and people are expressing solidarity with him outside which shows his popularity. Congress and TDP leaders are hitting the road and undertaking fasts and dharnas even in Parliament for cheap publicity as the leadership of both the Parties has agreed for the division and there is no point in these leaders going on strike.
TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu has given his assent to the division of the State on four occasions and TDP MPs going on hunger strike makes no sense at this juncture, he said.
Naidu should take back the letter he has given extending unconditional support for the division of the State and quit Assembly and go on fast along with his cadre.
It is unfair on part of other party leaders to say that YSR has begun the process of the division of the State. He was a true democrat and when some of the MLAs had given a letter on the need for a Telangana state, he has forwarded it to the Central Party leadership. The CWC then said that there are many states which are seeking division and it should be taken up after a Second SRC is set up.
In 2009, Congress went to polls on its own while TDP had a tie-up with TRS and other parties and the people have given YSR the mandate.
Before his death, he has set up a Committee led by K Rosaiah that has identified nine core issues that would come up if the State is divided. Unless these issues are sorted out amicably, the process of division cannot begin was the summary of the Committee recommendations but Congress has changed its stand for political reasons now, he said.
If YSR notion is to be respected, Second SRC should be commissioned or the nine issues raised by the Roshaiah Committee should be honoured, but Congress has taken the decision with political intentions. YSRCP, MIM and CPM have clarity on the issue.
It is not just Polavaram but also Pranhitha-Chevella was close to YSR and the Centre should accord national status to both the projects, he said.
A Committee should be formed to sort out the contentious issues involving experts and intellectuals before taking any decision. We will apprise him all the issues and seek his intervention, he said. INN
