CM directs officials to speed up flood relief

Hyderabad, Aug 5 : Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy today reviewed the situation arising out of heavy rains and floods in various parts of the state with the Chief Secretary Dr PK Mohanty and other senior officials in camp office. According to Disaster Management officials, a low pressure area has formed over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North West Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts.

Due to this, Heavy rain would occur at a few places with isolated very heavy rain would occur in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari and Krishna of Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours. Heavy rain would occur at isolated places over Telangana and in the remaining districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the same period.

Average rainfall recorded on August 5 is 5.9 mm.

As many as 47 deaths have been reported so far. A total of 21,384 houses were damaged which includes 1,653 were fully damaged, 3,285 severely damaged and 16,446 partially damaged. Crop spread across 73,093 Hectares in eighth districts got submerged.

A total of 158 relief camps are being operated in seven districts with 48,735 persons and on August 119 new camps were opened in Khammam, East Godavari, Adilabad and Warangal Districts and 7,950 persons were accommodated in the camps on Monday. They include 55 new camps in Adilabad and East Godavari Districts with 9,745 people.

Two NDRF teams comprising 42 persons sent to Kagaznagar, Mancherial, Adilabad District on the request of the District Collector. One Helicopter was requisitioned for rescue & relief operations in Eturnagaram Mandal, Warangal District on the request of the District Collector.

One NDRF Team (21 persons) was also sent to Warangal District. Two NDRF teams (80 persons) were also sent to Khammam on the request of the District Collector, Khammam District. Collector Khammam has requested for two Helicopters. Accordingly, MHA/ IAF/MOD have been informed.

Special Officers of Adilabad, Khammam, Warangal, East Godavari and West Godavari have been requested to visit their respective districts and monitor the situation. Control rooms have been opened round the clock at Collector’s office, RDO office’s and Tahsildars office’s of flood prone Mandals in East Godavari district.

A total of 229 boast were arranged for evacuating people and cattle from the flood affected areas. As many as 105 Medical camps were organised at the relief camps while 9,861 food packets, 182 milk packets and 9262 water packets were distributed to the evacuated people.
