New Delhi, Aug 2 : AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday apparently convinced union ministers from the Rayalaseema and Andhra regions to drop the idea of giving mass resignations.
Union Ministers including Daggubati Purandeswari, Killi Krupa Rani, JD Seelam and Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy were all set to resign from their posts at 11 AM on Friday along with 10 other Congress MPs. However, sources say that Digvijay Singh invited the union ministers for a discussion and his explanation changed the ministers’ mind on resignation.
Talking to reporters later, Digvijay Singh said that the Centre was trying to convince the Seeamndhra leaders that all their issues would be addressed. Requesting them to accept the decision taken by the Congress leadership, he urged upon them to maintain peace and calm.
Explaining the benefits of new State, he said the Polavaram Project has already been declared a National Project, it has huge natural resources, surplus power generation, a long coastline and efforts could be made to make a new capital which would be better than Hyderabad. INN
