Hyderabad, May 19: Several activists of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee were taken into custody when they tried to storm into the Congress State headquarters Gandhi Bhavan here on Sunday.
The OU JAC members were protesting against the statement of AICC Spokesperson PC Chacko saying that the Telangana was not on the agenda of UPA’s Common Minimum Programe. Accusing the ruling party of betraying the Telangana, the OU JAC leaders demanded that the Congress leaders from the region resign from their posts immediately. The OU JAC activists also burnt the effigy of Chacko in front of Gandhi Bhavan.
Tension prevailed for a while when some OU-JAC members tried to barge into Gandhi Bhavan. However, their attempt was foiled by the police who took them into custody and shifted them to a nearby police station. The activists were released later.
