GHMC gear up to face monsoon

Hyderabad, June 4 : GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu has appealed the citizens of GHMC to lodge their complaints regarding dilapidated buildings and compound walls of their area through GHMC 24/7 toll free call centre i.e., 155304 in order to avoid mishaps during ensuing monsoon season.

The Commissioner held a review meeting on monsoon preparedness with all the 21 line departments who render their services to the public in monsoon disaster management. He further directed the Zonal Commissioners to check the dilapidated buildings listed out last year and whose owners have given undertaking for strengthening those structures and failed to do so. He further directed the Zonal Commissioners to demolish those structures within a week’s time.

Krishna Babu has requested the citizens of the twin cities to lodge their grievances pertaining to monsoon related issues such as inundation, missing of man holes, falling of trees etc., to the call centre of GHMC. The Commissioner stated that stern action will be initiated such as booking a criminal case against the shop owners / residents, who have disturbed the manhole cover for their temporary relief and caused mishap. He further directed the officials to check and re check the manhole covers and preferably use FRP (Fiber Reinforce Plastic) manhole covers with grills.

The Commissioner has directed the Zonal Commissioner to review the progress of stagnation works and appreciated the officials for rectifying most of the stagnation points out of 187 points submitted by the Police Department. He further directed to attend the works of 14 major stagnation points such as Villa Mary College, Model House, Mythrivanam, Road No. 1& 12, Banjara Hills, Road No. 12 Kaman, Banjara Hills, Yousufguda Check Post, Rani Gunj under bridge, Karbala maidan, Fever Hospital, Ganga Bowli, Lal Bazar Railway Bridge, Alugadda Bavi etc.,

The Commissioner directed the Contractors to take safety measures such as barricading, pasting of radium Signages whenever there is a deep cutting of the road and further directed the officials to fine the contractors if they fail to take safety measures. The Commissioner has informed that there were 70 colonies inundated last year and directed the Zonal Commissioners to collect at least 6 responsible persons telephone numbers in order to send SMS alerts regarding heavy rainfall. He further directed the EE, Disaster Management to send SMS alerts to the all senior level officers of APCPDCL, HMWS&SB, Police, Revenue and Fire departments. The Commissioner has requested all the concerned officials to take the alarm/alert seriously as the emergencies comes mostly in nights and further informed that whenever alarm 2 and 3 comes they should be available at their respective duties.
