Charminar to remain closed till December 8

Hyderabad, Dec 05: Hundreds of visitors to the Charminar were disappointed on Wednesday after finding that the entry into the historic monument has been restricted.

As per the notice erected at the monument, the entry of visitors to the historic monument would be resumed only on December 8. Sources say that the Archaeological Survey of India has closed the monument for visitors at the request of City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma.

While the monument will remain close on December 6 in view of 20th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid, the City Police wants to restrict the entry of visitors on December 7 too as it falls on Friday.

Various political organizations including Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and Majlis Bachao Tehreek have called for bandh on December 6.

Meanwhile, the City Police have made elaborate security arrangements for December 6 and 7. Besides 10,000-strong personnel of Hyderabad City Police, 30-40 platoons of APSP, Armed Reserve and 10 companies of RAF have been deployed across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, especially in the sensitive areas.
