Hyderabad, Oct 30 : A two day joint seminar on ‘Disaster Management’ for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, began on Wednesday at the Artillery Centre here to discuss preparedness for natural and man-made disaster of varied nature. The aim of the seminar organised by the Headquarter Andhra Tamilnadu Karanata and Kerala (ATNK&K) Area of Army, was to foster greater synergy among the disaster management authorities, civil and military. The seminar has brought all the stakeholders, agencies and first responders to generate commonality in response against natural or man-made disasters.
Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad, Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Sambasiva Rao, Director General Fire Services, Bala Kishore, Director Factories and Dr Vimala Thomas, Director Public Health have deliberated on various aspects of Disaster Management. The day concluded with a lecture cum demonstration by National Institute of Security Academy (NISA), Fire Services Training Institute and the Department of Fire Services depicting the response preparedness. The state of the art equipment were also kept on display in which keen interest was shown by all the participants.
The delegates would be enlightened by Dr TS Sridhar, IAS, Government of Tamil Nadu, Sanjay Arora, ADGP (Ops), Tamil Nadu, Maj Gen CA Pithawalla, Andhra Sub Area and Somesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC, who are scheduled to address the seminar on the concluding day, on Thursday. INN
