Ministers’ wives join Samaikhyandhra agitation, meet Guv

Hyderabad, August 13 : A delegation of wives of State ministers and legislators called on Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday demanding that Andhra Pradesh be kept united.

Led by Dr Yaksha Sailajanath, wife of Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath, a delegation of more than 20 women (wives of ministers and legislators) submitted a memorandum to the Governor on the implications of division of Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to reporters later, Dr Yaksha said that the gross injustice would be done to Seemandhra region if the State was divided. She said that the entire commercial, educational and industrial activity of Andhra Pradesh was concentrated in and around Hyderabad. Further, the city houses all major hospitals in the State. Therefore, she said that people from Seemandhra region would lose all the employment and educational opportunities if denied a share in Hyderabad. She feared that people from Seemandhra region would be treated as outsiders to deny jobs and other opportunities.

Dr Yaksha described the decision to divide the State as politically motivated and therefore, it should not be implemented. She said that the Samaikhyandhra agitation would continue till the Centre reserves its decision on Telangana. INN
