New Delhi, Aug 1: At least 14 Congress MPs including four union ministers from the Andhra and Rayalaseema have decided to resign in protest against the Congress Working Committee’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
The decision was taken during the meeting of Seemandhra MPs held at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP KVP Ramchandra Rao late on Thursday night. The MPs were of the opinion that there was no point in continuing with the post and party if they were not able to reverse the decision taken in favour of Telangana.
Talking to reporters later, Vijayawada MP said that the Congress MPs have taken their decision and would convey the same in a media conference to be held at Parliament’s Central Hall on Friday at 11 AM.
Meanwhile, Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, who on US tour, has confirmed his resignation from the Lok Sahba membership. He said he was sending his resignation as Lok Sabha MP to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He also announced that he would quit the Congress party after he returns to India on August 6.
