Kiran Kumar Reddy resigns as CM?

Hyderabad, July 29: A day before the Congress Working Committee’s likely announcement of formation of Telangana, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned from his post on Monday evening.

According to sources, Kiran Kumar Reddy has sent his resignation to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday evening. He reportedly stated that he does not want to see the division of Andhra Pradesh as the Chief Minister. However, the report of resignation is yet to be confirmed by any official or party spokesperson.

The decision to submit resignation is believed to have been taken during the meeting that the Chief Minister had with his cabinet colleagues from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions at the State Secretariat on Monday evening. Ministers – Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, K Parthasarathy, Pithani Satyanarayana and other senior leaders from the Seemandhra region participated in the meeting.

It may be mentioned that the Congress High Command has summoned Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy CM Damodar Rajanarasimha, PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana to New Delhi ahead of the CWC meeting which will be preceded by the meeting of UPA Coordination Committee. With the Centre looking firm on granting statehood to the Telangana region, the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues from Seemandhra have decided to resign en-masse to pressurise the Centre to defer decision on Telangana.

It is not yet known whether Kiran Kumar Reddy will proceed to New Delhi on Tuesday.
