Adilabad, June 20: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen will field its candidates from a majority of places across the State in the next Panchayat Raj elections.
Addressing a massive public meeting at Bellampalli, MIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi announced that the MIM would contest the Panchayat polls in the State and would field its candidates from a majority of seats. Giving the slogan, “Our Vote, Our Rule”, he enthralled the youth to join active politics.
Asaduddin Owaisi expressed concern over the discriminate attitude adopted by political parties towards Muslims. He said only one Muslim candidate (Abdul Rasheed) was elected as MLA from Adilabad district in the past. Later, Sultan Ahmed’s defeat was ensured after giving him a ticket. He said of 570 MPTCs, only 12 are Muslims. Similarly, of 52 Mandal Parishad chairmen, only one is Muslim. Further, he said of 190 wards in the district, tickets are given to Muslims from a few seats.
The MIM president said that the Muslim community should now focus on its own political empowerment than strengthening others. He said it was due to the political strength of MIM that the successive governments were forced to concentrate on welfare of Muslims. The Minority Welfare budget was increased from Rs 490 Crore last to Rs 1100 Crore this year. Further, the MIM is making efforts to get Minority Sub-Plan on the lines of SC, ST Sub-Plan.
The public was also addressed by Karwan MLA Muqtada Afsar Khan and other leaders.
