AP Transco bags BEE’s Energy Conservation Award

Hyderabad, December 23 : The APTRANSCO has bagged the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) award on energy conservation in the category of Government Buildings for the year 2011-12.

The TRANSCO’s headquarters, Vidyut Soudha, has achieved the best results by effectively replacing existing 40 W fluorescent lamps with T5 lamps, replacing HPSV street lights with T5 street light fixtures and for replacing old fans and appliances with energy efficient fans and other star-rated electrical appliances respectively.

Meanwhile, Energy Department Principal Secretary M Sahoo has directed the power utilities to expedite the awareness programmes on energy conservation by intensifying the campaigning throughout the State to avoid wastage of precious power and to overcome the shortage of power to some extent, which is caused mainly due to unprecedented scarcity of fuel such as short supply of Natural Gas and inadequate coal stocks apart from reduced inflows into hydel reservoirs.

The Principal Secretary, in an informal meeting with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Sam Bob, GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu, APCPDCL CMD G Anantha Ramu, Special Secretary Energy Department Munindra, New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation MD Kamalakar Babu said that the success of Energy Conservation programmes would depend on the extent of awareness that could be created among the public.

The top officials of energy, MA&UD, agriculture and industry have already briefed Chief Secretary and State Energy Conservation Mission Chairperson Minnie Mathew on the steps initiated by the concerned departments to achieve the goals set by the SECM for EC&EE. The Chief Secretary has appreciated the involvement of the GHMC Commissioner in spreading the message of energy conservation through hoardings at the strategic locations. The effective campaigning on Energy Conservation with hoardings and posters having some of the following slogans have created positive impact among the public in the twin cities and the SECM is going to extend such campaign at district headquarters, towns and municipalities.
