CCRUM chief exhorts need to popularise ‘Hijama’

Hyderabad, Sept 14 (INN): Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine Director General Prof. Shakir Jameel has exhorted the need to popularise the Hijama, the cupping therapy, steam and oil therapy throughout the world.

Speaking on the occasion of a free Hijama Camp held in connection with the Cure all Regimental Therapy Centre here on Sunday, he vehemently opposed the idea of giving English names to the Indian or Unani Medicine practices, as it deprives the very soul of the treatment. He said as Yoga is as Yoga throughout the world so the word Hijama should be used in its original form. He lamented that inspite of being useful to the mankind the Unani system of Medicine is facing deterioration and advised the practitioners to be liberal in popularising the Unani formulae etc and pass it on to the future generations.

Prominent Scholar and Preacher Moulana Kaleem Siddiqi of Phulat (UP), while inaugurating the Centre, said that acquiring knowledge and spreading it is a duty of every Muslim. He said that not acquiring the knowledge or concealing it is a very great sin and forbidden in Islam. He said the Qur’an has in its very first verse revealed, instructed to read, thus acquiring the Medical Education is also necessary. He said that the Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him) has made efforts to promote the Medical practice. He also said that the world is wondering that how the shepherds have collected and saved every moment in the life of the Prophet, which is a guiding force for the entire humanity.

Dinesh Singh, Chief Conservator of Forests, government of Maharashtra and Dr. Mir Yousuf Ali Addl. Director AYUSH, Government of Telangana, were also present in the function. Earlier Dr. Fazal Ahmed Technical Director welcomed the gathering while Nazeer Ahmed CMD, elaborated the aims and objectives of establishing the centre. Dr. Ahsan Farooqi siad that Hijama should be performed only by the qualified and trained medical personnel. He said that the Allopathic doctors are getting training on Hijama in Western countries. A demonstration was also arranged on this occasion.
