Hyderabad, June 9 : Elaborate arrangements are being made for the maiden session of Telangana State Legislative Assembly from June 9.
The week-long session will begin at 11 AM on June 9 (Monday). Prior to the beginning of the session, Governor ESL Narasimhan will administer the oath to Pro-Term Speaker K Jana Reddy at Raj Bhavan. Later, the Pro-Term will administer oath the newly elected members of first Assembly of Telangana. All 119 MLAs are likely to take oath on June 9 itself and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected on June 10.
The Governor will address the House on June 11 and the Assembly will take up the Motion of Thanks on Governor’s address for two days from June 12.
The session will be historic in many terms. The House, where 294 MLAs used to be seated in the past, will have just 119 members. The empty benches in the House will certainly remind the senior MLAs of absence their counterparts from Seemandhra region. Further, the Congress legislators, who occupied the Treasury Benches in the House for a decade, will now be seated in the Opposition.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will be entering the Assembly after a gap of 10 years. Although he was a member of the Legislative Assembly for 19 years (1985-2004) and also served as Deputy Speaker from 1999-2001, he preferred Lok Sabha membership over Assembly. In 2004 elections, he was elected from both Siddipet Assembly and Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituencies. However, KCR resigned from Siddipet while retaining the Karimagar Lok Sabha seat. Therefore, KCR will be entering the House after a decade. INN
