New Delhi, Feb 13: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamalnath recommended stern action against the Seemandhra MPs who resorted to violence in the Lok Sabha during the tabling of Telangana Bill on Thursday.
“The circumstances that have occurred are a big blot on Parliamentary democracy. While expression of dissent is one other, this kind of violence is completely unacceptable and undemocratic,” Kamalnath told reporters. He said that the fundamentals and foundations of Parliamentary democracy have been shaken due to the violent incidents in Lok Sabha. Describing the incident as very unfortunate, he said he had never witnessed such a thing in the 33 years of his Parliamentary career. “I feel ashamed of it,” he said.
“You can accept or reject something. But you cannot suppress other members from expressing their views. Resorting to violence in the House is nothing but anarchy,” he said.
Kamalnath said that since the incident occurred in the precincts of Lok Sabha, only Speaker Meira Kumar could decide on the course of action to be taken against the erring MPs. However, he said strongest possible action would be recommended against the MPs who resorted to violence. He said although he did not see it, but he has been informed that there was gas, knife and other kinds of weapons used by the Seemandhra MPs.
