Bhuveneshwar, Nov 24 : Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal leader Naveen Patnaik on Sunday said that the division of Andhra Pradesh has been proposed for “narrow political gains.”
Speaking to media persons after YSR Congress Party president Jagan Mohan Reddy called on him here, Naveen Patnaik said that the the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh need a sensitive political dialogue. He denied having discussed the issue of third front with Jagan.
Later, Jagan told media persons that he requested Naveen Patnaik to help in keeping Andhra Pradesh united. He said that the Article 3 of the Constitution needs immediate amendment. “It would set a new precedent. After Andhra Pradesh, it will be implemented in other States. If we don’t stop here, then anybody in power in Delhi will divide any State in the country at their whims and fancies,” he said.
Jagan also said that passing of resolution in the Legislative Assembly concerned should be made mandatory to divide any State. “There should be a unanimous resolution or at least two-third of majority, both in Assembly and Parliament, should support the division. Else, the spirit of democracy will be killed,” he said. INN
