Hyderabad, Oct 5 : Normal life in 13 districts of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions remained disrupted for the second consecutive day on Saturday following a 48-hour bandh call given by different organisations in protest against the Union Cabinet’s decision to divide Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.
The traffic on both State and National Highways was badly affected while road transportation came to a virtual halt in several towns of Seemandhra region. The shops, commercial establishments and educational institutions too remained closed. Even the private vehicles proceedings towards Tirumula temple for Brahmotsavam were stopped at several places. The State-run RTC buses are already off the road since August 13.
In Anantapur, the YSRCP activists led by MLA Gurunath Reddy organised Rail Roko. They stopped New Delhi-Bangalore bound KK Express and Hindupur Passenger train. The rail traffic was also disrupted at a few places in Seemandhra region.
The residences of elected representatives were attacked by the Samaikhyandhra activists. While demonstrations were held before the residences of some leaders, the protestors attacked the properties of Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana in Vizianagaram. Police had to resort to lathicarge on more than one occasion to control the protestors. INN
