Hyderabad, August 21 : In a novel protest against the rising prices of essential commodities in the country, Bharatiya Janata Party leader M Venkaiah Naidu gifted onions to the women after they tied rakhi to him on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan here on Wednesday.
Participating in the Raksha Bandha celebrations at the State BJP Headquarters at Nampally here, Venkaiah Naidu gave onions as gift to the women BJP workers after they tied rakhi to him. Talking to reporters later, he blamed the Congress-led UPA Government for the rising inflation. He said that essential and food commodities have become so costlier that soon they would be used as gifts and not as consumables.
It may be mentioned that the prices of onions have touched their peak and were sold at Rs 80 per kg last week. Although, the prices came down in some cities, the commodity is still being sold at Rs 60 per kg in several cities and towns across India. The rising prices added another weapon into the arsenal of opposition parties who are targeting the government, sometimes through novel protests.
The BJP leader said that the wrong policies of Congress have pushed the country into severe economic crisis while increasing the burden on common man. INN
