56,000 house ready under JNNURM scheme: GHMC Commissioner

Hyderabad, Aug 5 : GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu on Monday informed that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has constructed 56,000 houses under JNNURM Housing scheme.

Addressing the media after Prajavani and responding to their query regarding delay in completion of JNNRUM Housing, the Commissioner said that the problem is identifying the beneficiaries who are not willing to pay the beneficiary contribution and he will be holding a meeting with both the Collectors of Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad Districts in this regard.

Briefing about the JNNURM Housing the Commissioner said that GHMC is constructing two types of housing colonies i.e., insitu (wherever the present colony is existing) Housing with 1+3 facility and at the vacant lands identified by the concerned Collector. The Commissioner said that GHMC has constructed 56,000 houses under JNNURM housing scheme excluding 23,000 houses under Rajiv Gruha Kalpa. GHMC is facing financial problems because of nonpayment of 30% of beneficiary contribution after constructing the houses with GHMC funds, he said. GHMC will be sorting out this issue with the concerned Collector very soon, he added.

Responding to the query of Media regarding Unni Kota Housing Colony the Commissioner said that the beneficiaries of Unni Kota colony have come forward for payment of beneficiary contribution and the contractors are reluctant to complete the construction process saying that the rates have been increased drastically. The balance work which is in finishing stage will be given to some other contractors by duly cancelling the earlier contract and difference of the cost will be deducted from the earlier contractor, he said.

Krishna Babusaid that the activity of R&B and National Highways regarding road repair works have been increased since 3, 4 days and GHMC could complete 60 per cent of identified road repair works.

He further informed that the subject of comprehensive roads design is a bigger issue and GHMC is concentrating on maintaining same standard of roads and improving them further. The Commissioner informed that GHMC is taking up drainage improvement works at 153 stagnation points identified by the Traffic Police.

As per regular practice storm water drain should be constructed beneath before laying any road but it is not happening, he said. The Commissioner said that GHMC is ready to take up comprehensive road improvement works with their own funds if the HMWS&SB officials submit their estimates in this regard. INN
