Hyderabad, July 27 : The counting of votes is in progress for the second phase of Panchayat elections in Andhra Pradesh.
The polling for 6,971 Sarpanch posts was held on Saturday from 7 AM to 1 PM. Barring a few instances of violence, the polling was largely peaceful across the State. Reports of clashes between the workers of different political parties came in from West Godavari and Prakasam districts. However, elaborate security arrangements ensured peaceful polling in other districts.
Of 21,592 Gram Panchayats, as many as 21,491 are going to polls in three phases. A total of 6,566 Panchayats went to polls on July 23 in the first phase while second phase polling and counting was held on Saturday. The third phase of polling will be on July 31. INN
