Hyderabad, July 12 : In order to ensure a comfortable and secure travel to the bona-fide passengers, SCR undertook a series of intensive checks against ticketless / irregular travel involving 2600 ticket checking staff in all its six Divisions.
During the first quarter (April-June 2013) of the current fiscal, ticket checking staff of SCR detected and penalized 6.28 lakh persons for committing the offence of either Ticketless Travel or irregular travel or traveling with un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 20.54 crore was realized from these ticketless / irregular travelers towards penalty.
The number of cases detected during this period at 6.28 lakh cases has shown an increase of 10 per cent over the cases detected (5.72 lakhs) during the corresponding period of last fiscal. Similarly, the penalty collected (Rs.20.54 Cr.) from the offenders has also registered an increase of 10.15 per cent over the penalty realised (Rs. 18.65 Cr.) during the corresponding period of the last fiscal
The ambush / surprise checks carried out by the Flying Squads in the Divisions and in Head Quarters helped enhance the effectiveness of the ticket checking activities being carried out regularly at various stations and in trains on SCR with an aim to curb the social menace of ticketless travel. INN
