Hyderabad, July 3 : Different courts have sent as many as 24 people to jail for driving their vehicles in inebriated condition.
While Third Metropolitan Magistrate B Chengalaraya Nayudu convicted 19 persons for a period of three days imprisonment each for drunken driving, Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Shiva Shanker Prasad convicted five persons for a period of one day imprisonment each for drunken driving.
The Enforcement against Drunk Driving was carried out over the last weekend i.e. on 28th & 29th June, 2013. A total of 209 cases were booked against Drunk Drivers involving 164 two-wheelers, six 3-wheelers and 39 four-wheelers. The vehicles of all the respondents were detained. They attended the compulsory counselling sessions at TTI, Begumpet and Goshamahal on Monday.
The respondents were produced before the Third and Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Court and fines of Rs 2000-2,100 were imposed.
It may be mentioned that from 1st January, 2013 to 29th June, 2013, a total of 6,584 cases have been registered and total imprisonments are 552 as on date. INN
