Hyderabad, June 28 : Chief Secretary Dr. P K Mohanty conducted the Special Task Force (STF) meeting on Thursday late in the evening and reviewed the progress of Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Making detailed presentation, HMR Managing Director NVS Reddy explained that the project is jetting ahead at a fast pace and so far 780 foundations (21 km), 625 pillars (17.5 km), 3,700 segments (sufficient for 11 km) have been completed and elevated viaduct has been erected over 4.5 km. He has mentioned that 70 per cent of Uppal depot works and 40 per cent of Miyapur depot works have also been completed.
Based on the presentation, Chief Secretary Dr Mohanty has given the instructions to the Traffic police to accord permission for more work fronts wherever two lanes are available on either side after barrication. HMR and L&TMRHL shall carryout road improvement works and adopt traffic management solutions including diversion of traffic to alternate routes etc., to enable smooth flow of traffic. L&TMRHL to finish foundations and pillar erection works on war footing in critical stretches in core areas of the city and reduce the barrication widths within 2 to 3 months. APTRANSCO to complete substations at Uppal and Miyapur depots as per schedule.
Mohanty instructed the Commissioner, GHMC and Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy to expedite acquisition of properties in the critical stretches for road widening in Metro corridors for Right of Way and smooth flow of traffic. APCPDCL to expedite furnishing estimates for 231 electrical poles, 28 Distribution Transformers and 30 other electrical installations.
R&B and NH authorities to take up restoration of road cuttings on priority and cost to be borne by HMR. Foot-over-Bridges (FoBs) to be removed by HMR as and when required – mainly for erection of elevated viaduct. Defence authorities to expedite handing over three acres of land to HMR after allocation of suitable encumbrance free land by Collector, Ranga Reddy District.
SC Railway to expedite handing over affected properties in Secunderabad station area to HMR and HMR to pay market rates for these lands. Railway shall also quicken approval of engineering designs for taking up construction of eight Metro Rail crossings over the existing railway lines. Water Board to complete shifting of ongoing water lines and sewer lines and to expedite the pending estimates for balance works to be taken up by L&TMRHL.
Chief Secretary has also advised HMDA Commissioner NK Prasad and HMR MD NVS Reddy to jointly develop Master Plan for future Metro Rail extensions in the extended HMDA area, keeping the future needs of fast expanding Hyderabad city in mind.
He said that Metro Rail, MMTS, Main Rail, National and State highways and major Bus depots should all be integrated and Transit Oriented Development approach should be adopted as per global best practices.
