UIDIA to speed up issuing of Aadhar cards

Hyderabad, June 21 : Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Friday informed the State Legislative Assembly that the Unique Identification Authority of India has initiated measures to speed up the issue of Aadhar cards after enrolment.

Replying to a question raised by MLA P Ramulu and others during Question Hour, the minister said that the UIDIA has initiated steps to increase the number of Aadhar enrolment centres and to cover all the remaining citizens in the State as soon as feasible. He said that the scheme was being closely monitored by the government.

The minister also informed that the Government of India has identified five districts – Anantapur, Chittoor, East Godavari, Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy – to roll out Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme in the first phase. Initially, pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes admnistered by the Union Ministeries of Social Justice and Empowerment, Human Resource Development, Tribal Affairs, Minority Affairs and Labour and Employment and Janani Surakhsha Yojna being administered by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare are covered under DBT. In addition, the LPG consumers in the five pilot districts are also proposed to be covered under DBT. INN
