People hit by shortage of burial grounds: Minister

Hyderabad, June 21 : Municipal Administration Minister M Maheedhar Reddy on Friday said that people in cities and municipalities were facing hardship due to non-availability of land for burial grounds.

Replying to a question raised by MLA A Amarnath Reddy during Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said that there were about 699 burial grounds in Hyderabad and 291 in Ranga Reddy district. In other urban local bodies, there are 1,648 burial grounds existing and 199 new burial grounds proposed.

The minister said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has already introduced the system of electrical crematoriums since long back at Amberpet with two units and Bansilalpet with two units. Further, modern electrical crematoriums were established at Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar and at Panjagutta and old units were also upgraded and functioning properly. However, he said that there was no proposal to introduce electric crematoria in urban local bodies.

Regarding the Rajampeta electric crematoria, the minister said that its structure is constructed up to roof level and the machinery is being made ready for fixing.
