CM to take final call on VAT on Textiles

Hyderabad, April 28 : The Cabinet Sub-Committee has decided to refer the decision on withdrawing Value Added Tax (VAT) on textiles to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee comprising Ministers Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, TG Venkatesh and Prasad Kumar on Sunday had a detailed discussion on the issue in a meeting held at the State Secretariat with the senior officials and representatives of textiles traders. The demands of textiles traders, concerned GOs and the practice in other States were discussed during the meeting that lasted for over one hour.

Later, the Cabinet Sub-Committee has decided to brief the Chief Minister about the outcome of the meeting while requesting him to take the final decision on the issue.

The textiles traders have launched several agitations in the recent past demanding complete withdrawal of VAT. Following an indefinite strike by the textiles traders, the State Government had assured to resolve the issue and a Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted to look into the issue. INN
