OU’s 79th Convocation on Thursday

Hyderabad, February 5 : The 79th Convocation of the Osmania University will be held on February 7 (Thursday).

The convocation is being held at Tagore Auditorium in the OU campus between 10.00 AM and 1 PM to confer Degrees and Diplomas on the successful candidates in the examinations conducted from July 2009 to June 2012. The earlier Convocation took place on August 17, 2010.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, OU Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana said that nearly 300 Ph Ds, including 98 women, and 86 Gold Medalists would be awarded at the Convocation. As many as eight M Phil pass outs, including two women, would be awarded degrees. AP Governor and OU Chancellor ESL Narasimhan will preside over the convocation while Prof Goverdhan Mehta, National Research Professor and Lilly-Jubilant Chair, University of Hyderabad, will deliver the Convocation Address.

Prof Satyanarayana said that the list of candidates provisionally declared eligible for the award of the gold medals in the under graduate and post graduate examinations and the list of Ph D candidates are on display in the examination branch, Osmania University, and also on the website www.osmania.ac.in

The gold Medalists and Ph.D. candidates have already been advised to contact the office of the Controller of Examinations for receiving the passes for the convocation. The candidates will not be admitted to the Convocation without passes. Further, the candidates have to attend the Convocation in white dress only. Due to security reasons, each candidate would be allowed to bring only one parent along with him.

Different Committees have been constituted and necessary arrangements are being made for the smooth conduct of the programme.

The OU VC said that the Convocation assumes significance as another milestone in the onward march of Osmania University.

Prof Satyanaryana informed that nearly 700 colleges were affiliated to the Osmania University. However, this number would get reduced by 50 as those colleges would be affiliated to the three new universities that have been set up recently. More than two lakh students are getting educated through OU now. INN
