Hyderabad, January 25: MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has vowed to “knock out” the Congress Government in the State.
Administering a pledge to thousands of Muslims during a public meeting at Darulsalaam on Thursday night that they would vote against the Congress party in next elections, Asaduddin Owaisi made it clear that he was ready for a head-on combat with the ruling party. Accusing Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of resorting to political vendetta against him and his party leaders, he announced that the MIM and United Muslim Action Committee would hold meetings across the State to expose the communal, inefficient and anti-people government which is burdening the common man.
Strongly defending his younger brother and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, the Hyderabad MP said that the MIM was never against Hindu religion or community. However, he said that the party was against Hindutva, RSS, BJP, VHP and other communal forces like Guajarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. To prove that Akbar Owaisi has been implicated in a false case, he cited his own arrest in 2005 case. He called upon the TDP, YSRCP, TRS and Left parties to realise the MIM leaders were being subjected to revenge politics. He condemned the government for registration case under sedition charges against Akbar Owaisi.
While defending his party MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri, against whom a case has been registered for insulting Mahatma Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi said Gandhiji was never insulted. In fact, he recalled that, as a MLA, he was part of the Legislature Committee that monitored the installation of Gandhiji’s statue in the Assembly premises.
Giving a new twist to the statue controversy, Asaduddin Owaisi said although his party never insulted Gandhi, he believes that Dr BR Ambedkar was a superior leader than Gandhi. Further, he said Netaji Subhash Chandrabose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad and the Muslims who took part in Reshmi Rumaal movement were far superior than Gandhi. He said the supporters of Gandhiji’s killer Godse were now accusing the MIM of insulting Gandhi.
The MIM president also attempted to attract Dalits by making favourable remarks about them. Referring to recent speech of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Saffron terrorism, he said the RSS, BJP and other organisations were targeting Shinde as he was a Dalit.
Speaking about a recent case booked against him in Kushaiguda police, he said he has been accused of giving Rs 3 lakh financial aid to Abdul Khadeer, a former constable who was convicted for murdering an ACP. Admitting that he has helped Abdul Khadeer, he said he would continue to do so in future. He said Abdul Khadeer has spent over 20 years in jail and he should be released. Further, he said several former naxalites who have spent almost 15 years in jail should also be released.
Asaduddin Owaisi was also critical about a media report that stated that City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma has asked his deputies to prepare a report on the cases and NBWs pending against the MIM leaders and workers. He said if the police was serious about executing NBWs, then it should not spare a senior Congress leader who burnt Gandhi Bhavan’s furniture; another leader who attacked Reliance Stores and so on. Claiming the present Congress Government would not last long, he advised the police to act as referee instead of playing opponent. “This is a boxing match. You just act as a referee and we are all set to knock out the government,” he said.
The MIM president also dismissed media reports that his party has become “political untouchable” after the registration of cases against Akbaruddin Owaisi. He said his party does not need the support of other parties for its survival and it would increase its tally from present seven MLAS during the next elections.
Stating that he was missing his younger brother, he also appealed to the people to pray for the health and early release of Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Earlier, several prominent leaders from across the country and also guest speakers from Pakistan addressed the meeting of Milaad-un-Nabi held on the occasion of birthday celebrations of Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). Akbaruddin Owaisi’s son Nooruddin Owaisi, who was sitting next to the MIM President was another attraction of the meeting.
