Green Corps plan awareness campaign to save oil and gas

Hyderabad, Jan 16 : To mark the anniversary of Oil and Gas Fortnight, the Prakrithi Mitra National Green Corps is organising several awareness programmes across the state addressing the farmers, housewives, transporters and student teachers with the support of the State Coordinator of Oil Industry. As many 80 such programmes have planned in the next fortnight covering these four sectors.

The oil and gas resources of the country are presently not adequate to meet our demand for petroleum products and therefore the country is heavily dependent on imports. During the year 2012-13, India has produced about 42MT Oil as against the demand of 171.6MT” said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the message to the nation on this occasion calling the nation to conserve oil and gas, on the occasion of Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) 16-31 January. This year the theme is “Save fuel, Save Money, Save Environment”.

“Traffic Jams, Red Signals, Getting down for small refreshment and meal breaks with the ‘engine on’ can make a definite impact on the consumption of Petroleum Products. Hence Stop the Engine when the Vehicle Stops” said Panabaka Lakshmi Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas while releasing a poster made for this fortnight long campaign on oil and gas conservation by the Prakrithi Mitra NGC.

A painting competition was conducted for the students belonging to NGC, NCC, KV Picket Scouts and Guides and Air Force School at parade grounds on Thursday. INN
