Prez polls are between secularism and communalism: TPCC

Hyderabad, June 27: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Vice President and former MP Dr. Mallu Ravi said that the present Presidential elections were a contest between secularism and secularism.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Mallu Ravi said while the NDA candidate Ramnath Kovind represents communal forces, UPA’s nominee Meira Kumar represents the ideology of secularism. He said election of Ramnath Kovind as the next President of India would be dangerous for the entire country as he is the follower of communal ideology of BJP and RSS. He said while making a statement in 2010, Kovind, as the then BJP spokesperson, had described Muslims and Christians as aliens to India.

On the other side, Mallu Ravi said Meira Kumar practices the ideology of ‘Unity In Diversity’ and strongly believes in secularism and equal rights for all citizens of India, irrespective of their religion, caste or region. He said India is a combination of 29 States where everyone is free to practice his tradition, culture, food habits, clothes and lifestyle.

Mallu Ravi appealed TRS President and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to vote in favour of UPA candidate Meira Kumar. He said secularism could not be proved by just organising Iftar parties or distributing clothes. He said by supporting Ramnath Kovind’s candidature, KCR would be strengthening RSS and communal forces in the country. (INN)
