City police to involve schools in traffic regulation

Hyderabad, June 27: Hyderabad City Traffic Police had convened a meeting with the managements of various schools in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to discuss issues pertaining to traffic chaos during school timings. The meeting will be held on June 29 at 10 AM at Ravindra Bharathi.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) V. Ravinder nearly 12 lakh students of about 3,218 government and private schools in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have started attending their school from 12th June onwards. “With such a sudden influx of school children, school buses and other modes of transport used by school children to commute to and fro from schools, the Hyderabad city roads are bound to get choked and jammed, especially during the timing when the schools begin and ends,” he said.

Further, he said that the safety of children coming to and going from schools was paramount. “It is imperative that the Hyderabad Dist administration takes up suitable measures to regulate the sudden surge of traffic volume to not only ensure the safety of school children, but also ensure smooth flow of traffic,” he said.

The agenda, to be discussed at the meeting, includes deployment of private security guards for security / traffic management; Autos to carry (6) school children only; School Buses maintenance as per Supreme Court Guidelines; Other measures to be taken to ensure safety of school children like signages and road marking i.e. no horn zone, speed limit, school zone, stop line, pedestrian crossing, etc., Staggering of school timings in School Zone areas; Parking of vehicles coming to drop and pick up school children – allowing vehicles inside premises and standard procedure to be followed for holding Parents Committee Meetings.

The Joint Commissioner informed that the meeting would be attended by Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy and senior officials from Education, Transport, GHMC and RTC departments. All the representatives of schools have been asked to come prepared with their ideas to the meeting. (INN)
