Hyderabad, Feb 25 (INN): Elated over the response to the membership drive, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has decided to strengthen its base in the Old City of Hyderabad by turning more aggressive.
According to TRS senior leader Rashid Shareef, the party leaders, including Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Panchayat Raj Minister K Tarakarama Rao, were happy to learn that more than one lakh people from the Old City have joined the TRS by enrolling themselves as both Active and Primary members. They were surprised to know that more than 50,000 members have joined the party at the TRS Bhavan itself, the Old City headquarters of ruling party located at Etebar Chowk on Mir Alam Mandi Road. During his meeting with KTR and Harish Rao on Wednesday, Rashid Shareef briefed them about the unique ‘Midnight Membership’ campaign undertaken to enrol new members. “They were quite happy after watching the pictures and videos of long queues and rush at TRS Bhavan in Old City where members were enrolled till 2-3 AM in the night,” he said.
Rashid Shareef said that the membership drive in the Old City would continue till February 28.
“KTR has agreed to visit the Old City within a week to review the membership drive and also to interact with people on the problems being faced by them. Harish Rao too promised that he would visit the Old City soon although he did not finalise the dates,” said Rashid Shareef.
The TRS leader also said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao too had planned to visit the Old City last month. However, due to other important programmes his visit could not be scheduled. “We will be meeting the Chief Minister in a day or two to formally request him to visit the Old City before the beginning of the forthcoming budget session,” he said.
