Hyderabad, Feb 19 (INN): The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Thursday claimed that it has enrolled thousands of members by undertaking a “Midnight Membership” campaign in the Old City, where most of the people are habitual of staying awake till late in the night.
“The TRS Bhavan, the headquarters of TRS in the Old City at Etebar Chowk on Mir Alam Mandi, witnessed the arrival of hundreds of people to join the party till 3 AM in the night. As many as 15 counters were set up to enroll both Active and Primary members and the response has been tremendous,” said TRS senior leader Rashid Shareef.
According to Rashid Shareef, more than 70 per cent of people who joined TRS in the last one week filled their forms only after 10 PM. Although the membership counters were opened at 11 AM, compared to late evenings, not many people turned up during normal working hours. A majority of those who joined the TRS are youth, followed by women. “People are have joined our party with the expectations and hopes that it would develop the Old City. We have already crossed the set targets of membership and in view of the huge response, we have requested the top leadership to extend the deadline from February 20 till month-end,” he said.
The membership drive in the Old City was directly supervised by Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali while TRS Greater Hyderabad Incharge M Hanumantha Rao visited the TRS Bhavan more than thrice in the last four days to check the status. Hanumantha Rao was reportedly both surprised and elated to see the response to membership drive in the Old City. He patted Rashid Shareef for effectively coordinating the campaign and revealed that the Old City’s TRS Bhavan enrolled highest number of members in the entire Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
