VHR demands constitutional powers for BC Commission

Hyderabad, Aug 23 (INN): Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday demanded that the Centre grant constitutional powers to National Comission for Backward Classes.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, VHR said that the BC Commission should get powers on par with SC and ST Commissions. He said that the BJP-led NDA Governemnt was not taking up this issue seriously and even during the meetings of the Parliamentary Committee for OBCs, the officials of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment were giving evasive replies. He said that the OBC MPs Forum has taken up the issue and in the recent meeting held on August 6, all MPs, irrespective of their party affiliations, passed a unanimous resolution on this matter.

VHR hoped that with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself being a OBC would consider the demand.
