Hyderabad, Aug 6 (INN): State Minorities Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan on Wednesday asked the Collectors of all 10 districts to launch a massive awareness campaign to ensure 100 per cent participation of all minorities in Telangana in the proposed Comprehensive Household Survey.
Speaking to media persons here, Abid Rasool Khan said that the Collectors have been asked to conduct campaign from August 10th to 18th across the State. He said minorities constitute about 15 per cent of total population in the State. However, less than two per cent of beneficiaries of government’s welfare schemes belong to the minority communities. Therefore, by participating in the proposed survey, the minorities could expect increase in their share of benefits in welfare schemes.
The Commission chairman also informed that a letter has been sent to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma seeking immediate steps to restore the 1264 acres of Wakf land in Alur of Chevella belonging to Dargah Hazarat Maqdoom Biyabani. He said that the market value of Wakf land has been estimated at Rs 260 crore. However, he said more than 90 per cent of the land has been encroached upon. He proposed that the government construct a Minorities University after removing encroachments from the Wakf land.
