12% Muslim reservation is impossible: Dattatreyya

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (INN): BJP senior leader and Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreyya opined that it was highly impossible to give 12 per cent reservation for Muslims in Telangana.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Dattatreyya alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was trying to appease the Muslim community by promising 12% reservation. He said that the TRS Government should learn lessons from previous Congress regime which failed to implement 5% Muslim reservation. He said that the government was forced to reduce the quota to 4% and its continuation is subjected to the final verdict of the Supreme Court. Therefore, KCR should restrain from reiterating the promise of 12% reservation for Muslims in the State.

Dattatreyya made it clear that the BJP was against giving reservation on the basis of religion. However, it would support reservation on the basis of social and economic backwardness. He said that the Congress party lost power due to its policy of appeasement and the TRS too would meet the same fate if tries to replicate Congress policies.

The BJP leader demanded that the TRS Government unveils its comprehensive policy on providing free education from KG to PG. He also sought clarity on the implementation of RTE in Telangana and also asked KCR to clarify how he plans to implement the 1956 cut-off year for fee-reimbursement.

He also demanded that the State Government send an all-party delegation to the national capital to seek Central help on various issues. He said he has been making efforts to get additional 1000 MW of unallocated power for Telangana State.
