AP enhances retirement age to 60 years

Hyderabad, June 23 : The Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed an amendment increasing the retirement age from 58 to 60 years.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu moved the amendment to AP Public Employment (Regulation of Age of Superannuation) Act, 1984. The amendment was introduced based on the World Health Organisation’s study stating that the average Indian life expectancy has increased to 65 years. Further, the Andhra Pradesh contended that it needs the services of senior employees for the residuary State. The increase in retirement age of Central Government employees from 58 to 60 years was also taken as a precedent.  INN
