Hyderabad, June 19 : Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy on Thursday urged Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda to withdraw the cases booked against the pro-Telangana activists during rail roko agitation as part of statehood movement.
In a letter written to the Railways Minister, Kishan Reddy said that people of Telangana have fought for over 60 years for a separate state of Telangana and the same has come true only a few days ago from now. “The people of Telangana participated in many agitations, strikes etc., for achieving their own state. During this 60-year long struggle, many people like students, farmers and many people from different walks of life had sacrificed their lives and lost their valuable properties also. During this struggle, people had participated in activities like rail-roko, raasta-roko and at one stage the whole region came to a stand-still (viz., sakala janula samme) and in which BJP also took active role and finally the dream became a reality and the people of Telangana rejoiced to the core and celebrations touched the pinnacle,” he said.
“Now the people of Telangana are enjoying freedom under the rule of their own people representatives and under the rule of their choice. At this happiest moment, one deplorable thing is that those who fought for the separate statehood and who participate in various agitations and struggles are facing cases against them which are haunting them without peace of mind even after achieving their lifetime dream of a separate State,” Kishan Reddy said while requesting the minister to withdraw the cases.
