Hyderabad, June 19 : GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar informed that the Mir Alam Tank would be developed on the lines of Hussain Sagar Lake at Tank Bund.
Speaking after inspecting the Mir Alam Tank here on Thursday, the Commissioner said that Rs 45 crore would be spent for the overall development of historic tank. He said that Rs. 5 crores works are being grounded. The people of old city will see a visible change in the coming months. The GHMC is planning in a very big way to develop the Miralam Tank as the people of the old city doesn’t have the facilities for walking, cycling, jogging tracks, etc., he said.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC Council has already sanctioned an amount of Rs. 5 crores to take up the project and GHMC is planning to take sanction of further funds for its beautification projects in the next meeting of the Council. In the first phase, the GHMC will take up Rs. 10 crores of worth of works which includes protection of lake, Entry Plaza, walking and cycling tracks, Tree plantation, Theme parks, Landscaping, Island improvement, boating, Fountains, Illuminations, Water quality improvement measures etc, at a stretch of entire Miralam Tank Circle consisting of around 7 kilometers. These works will be completed in a span of about three months.
The Mir Alam Tank will be having three entrance gates – one from Bahadurpura, second one from No.9 lane and third one from Rajendranagar Circle. The GHMC is also planning to lay a separate road for the nearby residents of Mir Alam Tank.
The Commissioner said that one special consultant will be appointed after the completing of the first phase to take up the project in a big way and the GHMC’s goal is to make the Tank fully functional by January 2015. INN
