Hyderabad, June 18 : Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Andhra Pradesh P Narayana on Wednesday informed that the new capital of residuary State would be constructed on the Singapore model.
Speaking to media persons after assuming charge at the State Secretariat here, Narayana said that besides providing basic amenities in all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, the construction of new capital would be major challenge before the government. He admitted that an area between Guntur and Vijayawada has been shortlisted for the new capital and District Collectors have been asked to identify the land. He said nearly 30 TMC of water would be required for the new capital.
Narayana said that Andhra Pradesh’s capital would be one of the best in the country. A delegation of Singapore Government has recently met Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and offered assistance and investments for the construction of the new capital. He said that the TDP Government would seek special assistance from the Centre for the construction of new capital.
The minister also informed that District Collectors have been asked to identify land for different projects in their districts. He also announced a four-lane track would be laid connecting Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor with Vijayawada.
Narayana signed the first file pertaining to sanction of Rs 15.3 crore for Venukonda Municipality. INN
