Minorities Commission to operate from outside Secretariat

Hyderabad, June 17 : Having faced eviction from the State Secretariat, the Andhra Pradesh Minorities Commission has decided to operate from Raghava Sadan on Raj Bhavan Road. The building, besides Lake View Guest House, was earlier allocated as the official residence of Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan.

Speaking to media persons here, Abid Rasool Khan said that he had taken the permission from State High Court to run the Commission’s office from Raghava Sadan. Since the Commission has been placed under 10th Schedule, it would work for both the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Abid Rasool Khan informed that the Commission has recently completed one year and dealt with number of sensitive cases pertaining to minorities in all 23 districts of undivided Andhra Pradesh. He said a detailed report on the Commission’s activities would be submitted to Governor ESL Narasimhan and Chief Ministers K Chandrasekhar Rao (Telangana) and Nara Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh). He said that the Commission would work from 10 AM to 6 PM in the new premises and will also work on second Saturdays. He said arrangements have been made to provide temporary accommodation to people coming from far off places. He said a free guidance cell, headed by an expert, would be set up from June 23 to help the students seeking admissions in medical and professional colleges.

He informed that a questionnaire has been sent to Cyberabad Police Commissioner on the Kishanbagh violence and police firing and a reply is expected in the next two-three days.  INN
