Hyderabad, June 16 : After introducing subsidized meal for Rs 5/- each, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is gearing up launch yet another novel scheme of breakfast for Re 1/-
Speaking to media persons after visiting the subsidized meal Centre at Nampally Sarai, GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain said that 2-3 different items like Idly, Wada and Upma would be offered in breakfast at a price for Re 1/-. He said a team of officials has been constituted to finalise the scheme. However, he said that the scheme would be launched after extending the ongoing Rs 5 per meal schemes to all 50 Centres across the GHMC. Presently, the scheme is being implemented at eight centres in the city and it would be extended from July 1.
The Mayor said that locations like Railway and Bus Stations have been identified to run the scheme as many poor people gather at those places. He said that food schemes would directly benefit the poor and hungry and it would not cause any burden on the GHMC. He said as against the GHMC’s budget of Rs 4,599 crore, only Rs 11 crore were being spent for the subsidized meal scheme which directly benefits more than 15,000 people on all 365 days.
