Hyderabad, June 16 : Setting a good precedent, Education Ministers of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday shared a common platform and explained their plans for education sector in their respective States.
The occasion was release of PGECET – 2014 results. Addressing a joint press conference, the ministers said that the efforts would be made to increase the literacy rates in both the Telugu speaking States. Telangana Education Minister Jagadeshwara Reddy said that the TRS Government would soon announce its policy on free and compulsory KG to PG education. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would take a final decision on the fee reimbursement scheme.
Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao informed that the TDP Government plans to would establish a network of education institutions in the residuary State. He said Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the ministers and officials to work towards achieving 100 per cent literacy rate in Andhra Pradesh. He said that a new education policy would be framed after reviewing the existing infrastructure and facilities in the education sector.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education Chairman Prof L Venugopal Reddy complained of shortage of staff in State universities. He said that the education standards could not be improved without having required staff and infrastructure. Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana said that the OU was aiming to becoming the top university in the country from its present 10th position. INN
