Hyderabad, June 3: Former minister K Jana Reddy has been elected as the leader of Congress Legislature Party in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly.
Jana was unanimously elected during the CLP meeting held in Assembly premises here on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, former Union Minister Vylar Ravi and AICC Secretaries – RC Khuntia and Thirunavakkarasu. Zaheerabad MLA Dr J Geetha Reddy proposed Jana Reddy’s name for the top post and it was supported by T Jeevan Reddy and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Jana Reddy is a seven-time MLA and he retained the Nagarjunasagar Assembly seat in the recent elections.
Briefing the media persons later, Digvijay Singh announced that the election of Jana Reddy as the Telangana CLP leader. He hoped that the Jana would effectively lead the Congress party and play the role of a constructive opposition.
Except Mudhole MLA Vithal Reddy, all 20 MLAs attended the meeting. Although TPCC Working President N Uttam Kumar and former DK Aruna too were in the race for the post of CLP leader, the legislators finally left the decision on AICC President Sonia Gandhi. After about two hour of discussion, Jana Reddy was unanimously elected as the CLP leader.
Being the head of second largest party in the Assembly, Jana Reddy now qualifies to become the Leader of the Opposition in Telangana.
Speaking to media persons later, Jana Reddy said he has been entrusted a major responsibility and he would strive hard to play the role of an active and vibrant opposition leader. He said that the Congress party would extend its support to the TRS Government for the development of Telangana. However, it would not remain silent if the government fails to delivers on its promises. (INN)
