Hyderabad, June 2: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Monday congratulated the people of Telangana on the formation of new State.
Addressing the Telangana Formation Day celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan here, Ponnala said that the six-decade-old dream of Telangana State became a reality due to the sacrifices made by hundreds of students and youth for the statehood cause. He claimed that AICC President Sonia Gandhi deserves full credit for the formation of Telangana State. She took the decision in favour of Telangana despite knowing well that the Congress party would face a rout from Seemandhra region. He said that the people of Telangana would always remain indebted to Sonia Gandhi for her decision.
Congratulating TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on becoming the first Chief Minister of Telangana, Ponnala offered full support to his government for the development of the new State. However, he also warned that the Congress party would not remain silent if the TRS Government fails to fulfill its promises.
Earlier, Ponnala hoisted the national flag and took salute of parade by Congress Seva Dal activists. The event was presided over Seva Dal chief K Janardhan Reddy and attended by Rajya Sabha MPs V Hanumantha Rao and MA Khan, former Deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha, former ministers D Nagender and Mohammad Ali Shabbir, NDMA Vice-Chairman Marri Sashidhar Reddy and other leaders.
