TDP Corporators slam GHMC chief, Mayor for bad roads

Hyderabad, May 10 : GHMC Telugu Desam floor leader Singi Reddy Srinivas Reddy along with party corporators conducted an inspection of city roads that are found to be in very bad condition.

Deploring the “negligent and lethargic attitude of the GHMC Commissioner and Mayor”, he said that the corporation has turned out to be a money minting organization rather solving the civic issues of the general public and providing them of basic amenities like good roads, street lights and garbage free locality.

Singireddy said that in February this year in General body meeting of the standing council a comprehensive developmental programme with an estimated amount of 300 crores was sanctioned but the plan mere remained on papers and no developmental was taken since then. It was informed in the council that the tender process for the roads, desilting of Nalas and other works has been completed but not even a single work was taken up. Taking an excuse of ZPTC local bodies elections and General elections the developmental programme has come to a halt. Despite the state election commission giving a nod to continue with basic amenities work such as street light, laying of roads etc no work was taken up.

“It is pertinent to say that despite incessant representations since November 2013 made to His Excellency the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, the then Chief Minister and other concerned officials acquainting them of the bad conditions of roads, desilting of Nalas, fixing of street lights and lifting of garbage from the respective areas, no action was initiated nor the condition of the roads improved and heaps of garbage accumulated across the GHMC limits posing a health risk to the public,” he said.

Singi Reddy opined that the present conditions of the twin cities are horrible and there is a risk to the lives of the citizens as no official is turning up to take a final call on improving the deplorable conditions of battered roads. Pointing out the extremely bad condition of Jambagh-Moazamjahi market road he said that this road has much importance as it is located in the heart of the city and connects all major city roads, but unfortunately this road has been subjected to gross negligence as the manholes present are left open/uncovered posing a high risk to the citizens. The ongoing works of Metro rail and occupying of the road with the garbage bins has added to woos of the public.

He also said that earlier the GHMC was working the service motive but now it is working with commercial motive. Since the Commissioner has taken over the reins of the corporation the developmental work has come to a halt as he is concentrating on generating as much as revenue in order to remain ahead of his predecessors in collection of revenue.

With all the bad conditions of roads, improper street lightings and failure in desilting of Nalas if any casualty takes place the Commissioner GHMC and Mayor Hyderabad shall be held responsible and criminal proceedings shall be initiated as their negligent attitude is resulting in risk to the public life, the TDP leader said.  INN
