Hyderabad, April 23 : The Telangana unit of Congress party’s student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday released the manifesto for the upcoming general elections.
Speaking on the occasion at Gandhi Bhavan, NSUI incharge Giri Chodanki said that the Congress-led UPA Government brought several revolutionary changes during its 10-year regime. Nearly 41.6% people were Below Poverty Line when the UPA Government was formed in 2004. This has been brought down to 20 per cent in 2014. Nearly 14 crore families have been provided jobs or other sources of livelihood to improve their economic conditions.
Chodanki praised the UPA regime for introducing revolutionary legislations like Food Security Act, Right to Information Act and Right to Education Act which ensured the empowerment of common man. He said nearly 10 lakh applications are being filed on daily basis under the RTC Act.
Addressing the gathering, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Dr Shravan Kumar praised the role played by students and youth in Telangana movement. He said Telangana statehood agitation was the biggest, successful and most peaceful public moment in the recent history of the world. He asked students and youth to act like watchdogs of Telangana to ensure that all the promises being made by the parties are fulfilled. INN
