Rayadurgam MLA attempts suicide before police station

Anantapur, March 4 : Rayadurgam MLA Kapu Ramachandra Reddy on Tuesday attempted suicide by consuming pesticides before a police station in protest against the alleged high-handedness of police officials in arresting YSRCP activists.

The MLA, along with his supporters, first staged a dharna before the police station demanding immediate release of YSRCP activists. However, when the police refused to accept his demand, he consumed pesticides in protest.

Ramachandra Reddy was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is said to be critical. The doctors have reportedly advised the family to shift him to Bellary for better treatment. The incident triggered strong protest by the YSRCP activists who also called for Rayadurgam bandh on Wednesday.  INN
