Kamareddy, March 2 : As many as 219 habitations in drought affected Kamareddy started getting drinking Godavari water from Sunday onwards.
Former minister and MLC Mohammad Ali Shabbir launched the scheme in the presence of former minister Sudarshan Reddy and Zaheerabad MP Suresh Kumar Shetkar at Mallanagutta here. The CPWS scheme to Kamareddy and other habitations in Nizamabad district was adminstratively sanctioned under HUDCO grant for Rs 140 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali informed that the scheme would cover 219 habitations in drought affected Kamareddy, Machareddy, Domakonda, Bhiknoor, Sadasivnagar and Tadwai mandals and would benefit 334,404 people. Further, raw water provision has been made for Kamareddy municipality, Dharpally, Dichpally and Gandhari mandals with a population of 236,173 people with 40 LPCD of clear water demand. The source for this scheme is SRSP reservoir (capacity 90 TMC) in Balkonda mandal and annual requirement of the scheme is 0.87 TMC.
Shabbir Ali informed that as per sanctioned estimate of Phase-I, the water is proposed to be lifted from Intake well to Filters near Mallanagutta with all required items such as intermediate sumps, Pump houses, power lines, Pump sets, pipelines, etc., are provided and work is completed. To provide distribution lines to serve 219 habitations in Kamareddy area requires an amount of total Rs 92.50 crore. The work on second phase has been started and an initially Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for the same. Another Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned as Phase-III and DPR is submitted. The balance Rs 52.50 crore has been proposed in Phase-IV of the scheme.
Earlier, Shabbir Ali along with Sudarshan Reddy and Shetkar inspected the canal works on Pranahita-Chevella Drip Irrigation Projects on Link-7 of Package 22 in Bhumpally and Kondam. Once completed, the project will have an ayacut of 156,000 acres spread across 150 villages. INN
