GHMC Corporators get Rs 1.5 Cr each for development

Hyderabad, Feb 24 : All 150 corporators of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will get funds of Rs 1.5 crore each for the development of civic infrastructure in their respective divisions.

“We have earmarked Rs 1.5 crore for each corporator ward in the GHMC Budget 2014-15 for taking up works identified by the respective corporators,” Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain announced while presenting the budget on Monday. The funds will be released in two phases (first half-year and second half-year) at Rs 75 lakh per phase, including the necessary allocations for sewerage and water works.

The Mayor assured that the development of civic infrastructure in the core city (erstwhile MCH) as well as the other areas (the extended area that covers erstwhile 12 municipalities) will be given the top priority. “We will seek to do justice to all the 150 divisions to ensure that no area lags behind the others in terms of civic amenities,” he said.

In view of Hyderabad being made the common capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Mayor requested the Centre to allocate more funds for the city. “As the GHMC area would serve as the common capital and both the governments would be using the civic amenities available in the city, we would also urge both the government of Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh to give us liberal grants in view of the additional responsibility cast on us,” Majid Hussain said in his budget speech.  INN
